A Mother of a Revolution!
Omar Thomas, composer
In the fall of 2019, composer Omar Thomas visited the campus of the University of Miami and attended rehearsals of his new work, “A Mother of a Revolution!” Thomas shared his inspiration for the piece – Marsha P. Johnson and her efforts in establishing the first “Pride” events after the Stonewall Riots – and helped us craft our performance to embody feelings of determination, strength, and hope that Marsha and other LGBTQ+ activists displayed during the movement.
Frost Symphonic Winds performed this piece on October 3, 2019. The recording can be found on Thomas’ website.
